Making your Textile Piece

What have you Achieved?

I am writing this before I have actually finished my textile piece but I feel that I have produced the main structure of the piece and I aim to finish it all at my own pace throughout the year.

As I have put together all my work so far I can see a definite continuous theme in my work as I have seen before. at the start I made a note of all the different techniques I like to work on and I came up with everything that involves embroidery and applique so I knew the direction I would be going in.

When I look at my original drawings and samples I can see how I have developed these into my final piece. I have used the flowing, almost sea movement shapes along with French knots and they I have incorporated the image within another a shape from earlier work that I have done.

As I look back I do like another concept of design that I have created that I would like to work on in the future and I can see the final piece already in my mind but I feel that I need to learn how to manipulate the fabric more and learn how to quilt so this could be something to definitely work on in the future when I have developed more techniques.

I have been able to interpret my ideas reasonable well with a few re-makes at the beginning. I have to confess that my work has changed slightly from my original drawing. I have Incorporated coloured buttons which was not there in my original design but having looked as work from Henri Matisse and admiring his work with colour I was inspired to incorporate more colour from his work into my finished piece.

I am enjoying making the piece so far, I just love 'drawing' with stitch and look forward to working in this medium in the future. I like what I have produced so far, as to whether it will end up on my sofa when it is finished, the jury is still out, we will have to see wont we!
